Fraud telephone dialers and computer

The phone has been and remains one of the tools comuincación largest ever created, and its enormous potential vector obviously opened for business from legitimate sources, and for all kinds of scams and tricks . The goal is always the same: Get an extra ticket, or a costly service for free. Television and computers have been used and abused the phone for nefarious objectives, and if you look carefully you'll notice that the trend still exists, although it certainly has changed. Here is an overview of the best known examples, including CD's of some company, but were legal, we did mourn pain.

Once upon a time ...

... in the last years of the decade of 1950. Although the patent was granted to Alexander Graham Bell telephone is dated 1876, it is true that in the 50s, the phone still had more luxury than the basic service. There are countless examples in books and movies where someone should go to "Village Store" or a neighbor's farm long ago to make a call. But leaving aside the fiction, at some point in 1957, we met a young man named eight years Josef Carl Jr Engressia ., Who was born being blind. After four years, Engressia became fascinated with the phones. At five, he discovered he could dial numbers "beating" hang switch on phones that had protected the dial or disabled. However, Engressia was gifted with perfect pitch, and seven years found that whistling a tone (2600 Hz) , could trigger automatic switches Bell, and after extensive exploration of the system, find ways to make free telephone. Marked an extraordinary genius for his blindness and abuses suffered child Engressia (who legally adopted the name "Joybubbles") changed the history of telephony, and other titans of the computer as Steve Wozniak, took it as inspiration.

Engressia
The discovery led to the development of the famous "blue box", which generated 2600 Hz tone and enable the marking. Who did this? None other than Steve Wozniak. (Source: Wikipedia)

The phenomenon of "phreaking " and the birth of the famous "colored boxes" , maybe it was the original reason why telephone companies open their nuclear silos and began to hunt down all those who practiced in one form or another. Engressia, the famous Captain Crunch (Joe Draper) with the whistle of cereal, and many other experts at the time were arrested and convicted on charges of fraud phone, regardless of the fact that they were "exploring" system and not "exploiting" . For companies were making free phone calls, therefore "stealing" your , when in fact they were our own vulnerabilities of a supposedly secure system that allowed this. At the same time, it also captured much less scrupulous than others made a mess with this knowledge. But Joybubbles ? I just wanted to work for Bell not ruin it.

The present value of these whistles exceeds $ 60 on eBay, and growing (Source: TechRadar)

Numbers "premium"

Of course, phone fraud was far beyond, and was not necessarily the technology side of the fence. The offer "special services" through "premium number" have been with us for decades. Television programs, past and present, have resorted to this kind of numbers for earnings calls. While the premium numbers are technically legal, the issue has been the way in which they have been used. There are cases reported during the 80s in some TV commercials tempted to younger children "play" with the phone, telling them that they should dial a number to start. That was as unsuspecting parents were with astronomical sums on the phone bill, all because there were no restrictions on these kinds of numbers. Even an episode of "The Simpsons" show this, when Lisa has problems with hotline Corey.

No explanation needed for this ...

"Piiiiiii ..."

As some may imagine, the meeting between the phone lines and computers was inevitable. Art history of the modems back to 1920, but the real "explosion" between modems came through the "Smartmodem" introduced in 1981, the year in which, by universal coincidences (or perhaps not so much) , appeared the IBM PC. Improved design, speed increased, there was even a war in the middle protocols ( K56Flex versus X2) , and eventually led to the Internet connection services via dial- -up. " Remember this?

Well, that noise accompanied us for years, but so we had to deal with the famous " dialers." The " dialer" or "marker " is nothing more than a device designed to dial automatically. We have seen a great example in the movie "WarGames" and there is another excellent chapter in "The Simpsons in which Homer is one of these merciless machines and starts nothing less than a telemarketing fraud , another variation of phone fraud . But at the computer, the "dialer" became a very annoying malware. The dialer came disguised as a security program or a "free" (without going any further, pornography, or the same Internet connection) .

An example of dialer, real nightmare at the time of 'dial-up' (source: TrendMicro)

By accepting access, exposing your system user to install a malicious program that automatically configured by default a telephone connection to a number of high cost premium, and there are even copies mute the modem to camouflage your remote connection. A computer could spend hours connected to a premium number "and" long distance, so the amount directly on the ballot was the only tangible clue to the user that something was wrong with your connection. The dialers proved a very complex bugs eradicated, and even today you can find examples beyond the advance of broadband and the decline in the popularity of dial-up .

In times that raged dialers, there were other forms of fraud. Telefónica should have annulled the card readers in public phones in some countries due to the use of modified cards. (Source: worldpayphones.com)

This storm called "America On-Line"

Although this is not within the phone fraud has been a fact that was the limit of patience of millions of users, and defining "commercial abuse" . The nightmare ended in 2006, but before that time, floppy disks initially (approximately July 1993) and CD's at a later stage, full mailboxes, newspapers, stores and basically any place that could be offered. I personally remember that stores sell appliances that were taking their first steps in providing computers, they placed a kind of place where people could take the CD's willingly . With the promise of tens, hundreds or even thousands of hours of free Internet , CD's from America On-Line took by assault the planet. Officials acknowledge that at some point, half of world production of optical discs ended with the logo of America On-Line on its surface.

If I see one of these again physically ... I will run. As a coward.

were basically two problems: People misunderstood the concept of "free" , and the software that came on the CD's was a real mess. to read "1000 hours of free Internet" , there were many who assumed that connect "cost nothing" , when in fact it was free internet access and not the completion of the call. On the software side, well ... I can only say that before writing to arg and other means, my service work was simplified to face dozens of computers reduced to a digital mass poor "nothing" due to dialer owner put AOL in these CD's. "Most disturbing of all? It was a well planned campaign. Steve Case, former CEO of America On-Line at the time, said in Quran that in the early '90s, the goal was to spend up to ten percent of the gain obtained through the average duration of a subscription. This average was twenty-five months, adding about $ 350 profit, therefore, America On-Line estimated to spend about $ 35 for each potential customer . Jan Brandt, another former CEO, offered a number: $ 300 million , something that assume only the United States. The amount of CD's? Conveniently there is no official data on that, but some estimates put the figure in more than one billion records .

Phones and the "neo-fraud"

With the advent of broadband, dialer effectiveness as a tool for fraud is limited to those systems that still rely on a dial to enter the Web . All that remains of "marked" in ADSL is the word (since this is more of a "login") , while the cable modem has nothing to do with it. But with the advance mobile telephony, the forms of fraud have also been adapted. Who has not met with an ad that offers to send poems, love tips, photos of nude celebrities and many other things to your phone, by sending a message? These "services" have very similar performance to premium numbers, with the difference that alter the price (well above the nominal rate) messages. Realizing the deception, the user continues to send messages asking for the floor, feeding back the scam and consuming your credit quickly. I have witnessed several cases where people have seen forced to cancel your phone line and replace it with a different number, because this kind of horror.

New forms of fraud and found room between the existing communication platform (Source: vo2.co.nz)

And this continues . Today I woke up twice with the intention to offer "long distance packages" , and on average I am getting spam SMS per day, even without registering to any service. There is a trend indicating a decrease in the number of phone lines in favor of mobile and IP telephony. Technology changes, but so will the scams and deceptions. There is no other choice but to be vigilant, and that includes anyone who wants to bathe in the spirit of those pioneers of telephony, and decides to find out how the system works. Companies have become relentless, and can detect many disturbances to line. No matter which side of the fence you are, beware .

QDOS, the "father" of DOS (1979)

The QDOS , an Operating System (OS ) written by Tim Paterson in 1979, was bought by Bill Gates and " become" in the MS-DOS , the product would be key to the future success of the Microsoft empire. QDOS was a 16-bit OS designed to run on the Intel 8086, draws heavily on the CP / M prewritten by Gary Kildall. Paterson, aged 22, wrote QDOS in just a month and a half, providing the same interface and most of the commands available in CP / M. We tell you the secrets of the origins of MS-DOS, one of the most popular operating systems in history.

circulate many stories about Bill Gates and his company Microsoft . One of the most interesting is the origin of what would be one of the operating systems (OS ) software in the world, whose success prompted the company financially Gates and became the giant it is today. The legend, not all the passages in this entertaining saga have ratified or denied by the people involved, and possibly never will be-that Microsoft bought for a few dollars an existing OS, I made some modifications and licensed it to IBM gaining in the process hundreds of millions of dollars. The OS in question was QDOS (for " Quick and Dirty Operating System " or " Quick and Dirty Operating System ") written by Tim Paterson . The QDOS was an OS for the systems used 16-bit Intel 8086 microprocessor , Paterson had written that in turn inspired by the interface and commands SO using the most popular of the era: the Control Program / Monitor ( CP / M ). The CP / M had been programmed by Gary Kildall between 1973 and 1974, who in 1976 founded the company Digital Research Inc. (DRI ). If you're over 35 years, may remember an OS alternative to MS-DOS called DR-DOS , it was not anything other than the version of Digital Research most widely used system for the first PC.

Card owner of Seattle Computer Products (Sugarcaddy)

But back to the origins of QDOS . In the late 1970's could be found on the market several computers, some quite powerful- that were sold in kit form . This significantly lowered prices, and a large number of users " built" their own computers. But for these machines would serve as something was needed OS capable of handling files and system resources. One of the companies specialized in developing computer kits was Seattle Computer Products (SCP ), whose sales has not taken off due to lack of software capable of running on your system. SCP could only sell their badges on Microsoft BASIC-86, a programming language that Microsoft developed specifically for the platform. SCP dreamed in his catalog include the version of CP / M that Digital Research had announced for the Intel 8086 microprocessor , but months passed and the release of CP / M was postponed again and again. DRI carried on their backs with a true " tradition" in terms of delays, two years earlier had been delayed in migrating CP / M to new formats of floppy disks and hard drives. Tired of waiting, SCP in April 1980 took the bull by the horns and assigned to one of its employees scheduling a proprietary operating system. The employee was, you guessed it, Tim Paterson, and the OS was wrote QDOS . The new operating system, whose name referred to how fast it was written by Paterson (took only a month and a half) and " concessions" that had been made as to its characteristics in order to finish on time.

This saw the 86-DOS (MESS)

Paterson, who was only 22 years, QDOS designed to be as close as possible to CP / M, since this was a SO accepted by the public and very popular. QDOS was not trying to just a blatant copy-and having to face a hard-Paterson lawsuit scheduled most of the commands available on the CP / M, but did not use the same file system. Instead used the s ystem FAT file (File Allocation Table or Table File Allocation ) that Microsoft used in some versions of BASIC. To avoid forcing the update of the contents of the disks before removing, Paterson avoided using a copy of the file system in RAM. This, although towards the system drives a little slower, more memory left free to the user. It was a minor detail, since those years memory was extremely expensive and scarce . Also replaced some commands CP / M by less powerful but more intuitive. That was how the powerful and versatile command copy "PIP " of CP / M was replaced by " COPY." It is said that to do their job, Paterson bought a manual of CP / M and used as a basis for programming QDOS. You may have used much more than that, since it is quite difficult to write a " clone" of, for example, Windows XP seeing only your owner's manual. Anyway, the truth is that the young programmer gave Seattle Computer Product s OS needed, and it began to market it under the name 86-DOS.

IBM PC. (Boffy b)

Meanwhile, IBM had confined a group of engineers in Boca Raton designing what would be the most spectacular bombing in the history of computing : the IBM PC. late 1980 CP / M was arguably the most popular OS, and IBM wanted it for his new computer. But when representatives of the Big Blue interviewed managers Digital Research, found that this would not be easy. During discussion on the terms and scope of the license, Dorothy McEwen Kildall , the licensing representative, refused DRI to sign the agreement alleging the existence of a non-disclosure. IBM, decided to use CP / M, eliminated this pitfall of the contract, but Digital again refused to sign because he disagreed with the $ 250 000 (plus an amount in royalties for each sale) that IBM offered in exchange authorization to sell all copies of the OS they deemed necessary. The negotiations had stalled, and eventually people IBM met with Bill Gates to see if Microsoft provided an operating system that allowed them to enter the machine, which was almost ready, "in the market. Bill negotiated hard with IBM and got more or less the same Big Blue deal that he had offered to DRI, while retaining the rights to sell the OS with its own brand. This proved to be a great move for Microsoft, the IBM PC and its clones dominated the world, and each was sold Gates and his friends pocketed a few dollars. But best of all is that, when engaging with IBM, Microsoft had nothing to sell.

Home Owner's Manual 86-DOS V. 0.3 (Tim Paterson)

fact, Microsoft does had an operating system to deliver to IBM, or the time required for programming. Far from being discouraged, Gates purchased, in December 1980 - a non-exclusive license 86-DOS from Seattle Computer Products for only $ 25,000 . Obviously, he could not deliver that product as it was IBM, so in May 1981 Microsoft hired Tim Paterson to change its former QDOS so that it ran on the new IBM-PC. The amendments were necessary because IBM had based his design on the cheaper and slower Intel 8088 microprocessor , which despite being very similar to 8086 was not 100% compatible. It took more than 300 changes all supervised very closely by representatives of IBM, who were clear that the proper operation of your computer depends largely on the quality of this software. Finally, in July 1981, just one month before they launched the IBM PC to stores Microsoft bought all rights to the 86-DOS in exchange for 50 thousand dollars additional . This operation completed the move of Bill Gates: IBM got an OS very similar to CP / M, programs written for that OS could be ported easily to the new DOS, assured financial gain from the sale of each PC, and eliminated any trial for kidnapping attempt by the SCP to have bought all rights of his 86-DOS. What they say, a windfall.

Microsoft became the QDOS in the PC-DOS 1.0 and gave it to IBM. (Ibm5150.net)

Microsoft became the QDOS in PC-DOS 1.0 - " DOS" means " Disk Operating System" or " Disk Operating System" - and I delivered to IBM. In addition, he began selling its own version under the name MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System ) and quickly garnered a fortune. Logically, lawyers for Seattle Computer Products argued that Gates had concealed its relationship with IBM at the time of buying the license 86-DOS, but only got an extra payment of one million dollars from Microsoft. Gary Kildall is said to have carefully examined the PC-DOS executable and found, as saying the journalist and writer Jerry Pournelle - containing parts of the original source of CP / M. Pournelle says Kildall showed him personally or by entering a command on the PC-DOS, it showed his name on the screen. However, this command was never revealed and the story has not been corroborated. By way of disclaimer, Paterson has always maintained that QDOS was written from scratch by himself, and only mimicked its interface and commands, without ever seeing the source code. And the vast majority of historians believe this version. At that time, an OS was small enough to be written by one person, and Paterson was smart enough to do so.

QDOS became the OS of IBM PC (IBM)

Obviously, in the history of QDOS the smartest character has proved Bill Gates. Without breaking the law, always moving to the edge of the border that separates the ethical from the trap, Microsoft managed to win billions of dollars from an investment of just over one million. He had the courage to sit at the heads of IBM and assure them that the OS would need, even if Microsoft did not have anything tangible to offer. Anyway, QDOS -the product of the mind of a programmer than 22 years became the PC-DOS / MS-DOS that millions of people bought for more than a decade. What do you think?

How Much Is Laser Hair Removal For The Whole Body

Videos Hello Kitty

Hello, Holit! How about? I'm fine. And maybe tomorrow I have good news for all of us (we, you and me), but not safe. Well, I see that no one dares to make comments (that part I'm not very happy!! = (), With which I have no choice but to choose me character and biography. So, as we have a 'man' fictional character (Sponge Bob), now play a 'girl' fictional, and have chosen to Hello Kitty! Here you have her biography:

Hello Kitty is a fictional character (as I said before) produced by the Japanese company Sanrio, and has long been the most popular of this company. It was designed by Ikuko Shimizu and the first product, a vinyl purse, was released in Japan in 1974 and in the United States in 1976.

The character is a white cat with anthropomorphic form and very geometric, with a distinctive ribbon or other decoration on her left ear. In 1976 he obtained copyright (copyright tenog me! And no lie!) And is now a globally known brand. Hello Kitty line generates an annual 250 million euros from the sale of licenses. There is an official theme park owned by Sanrio, Sanrio Puroland called (I had no idea, now.)

Series:

There have been several Hello Kitty animated series aimed at children. In animated films made by Sanrio from 1977 to 1985, appeared Hello Kitty doing cameos.

The first animated series called Hello Kitty was the U.S. (co-produced with Japan) 'Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theatre', released around 1986. This series, produced by Sanrio in cooperation with the now defunct DiC Entertainment, parodies the famous fairy tales of the time. Aired in the United States in The Family Channel, and English dubbed version was broadcast on Saturday morning at Univision.

Japanese anime series Hello Kitty and Friends (Hello Kitty and friends) is broadcast on TV Tokyo in Japan and the United States CBSen 1991. Replenishments were issued on Toon Disney. In the series, Kitty is a little girl living with her parents, Mary and George White, and her twin sister Mimmy, which is identical to Kitty but has different colored clothes and carried a lariat in the other ear. There were 13 episodes.

On Japanese TV, Hello Kitty (and friends) staged a series of anime. Hello Kitty's Paradise (Paraiso de Hello Kitty) had 16 episodes broadcast between 1993 and 1994. This version is said in English in 2000, along with Hello Kitty and Friends.
Hello Kitty and friends also appear in Hello Kitty's Animation Theatre. Available in U.S. labor ADV Films (who also owns the rights to video / DVD of Hello Kitty and Friends & Hello Kitty's Paradise)

Hello Kitty was featured in a new Japanese series of clay -animated called Hello Kitty's Stump Village in 2005. At Anime Expo 2006, Geneon Entertainment announced that Hello Kitty's Stump Village was allowed to exit the U.S. market. Volume 1 was released in October of that year and Volume 2 in January 2008. After Geneon withdrew from the U.S. market in late 2007, was assigned the license to FUNimation Entertainment, who continues to sell in North America.

Hello Kitty first appeared in a 3D animation The Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends developed by Sanrio Digital.

Products (To purchase, not if I will understand ...):

Among Hello Kitty products can be found from school supplies to fashion accessories and jewelry (I have bracelets, watches, necklaces ...!!).

Hello Kitty has her own music album, Hello World, with songs inspired by Hello Kitty and performed by artists like Keke Palmer Yarckin Cori.

adapted in 2007 Sanrio Hello Kitty's image to attract a male audience. At the top of the cat appeared written 'Hello Kitty' keeping the cat's profile and changing the color of your tie from pink to blue.

Sanrio and Fender have marketed a series of Hello Kitty guitars (the Hello Kitty Stratocaster), and even a jet plane (the Hello Kitty Jet). The latter was also called in May 2008, Japanese Ambassador, representing the country in China and Hong Kong.

have even been marketed low-cholesterol biscuits with the image of the kitten, owned power firm Arluy.

Curiosities (That can not miss!):

-Birthday: November 1 of 1974
-Blood type: A-
Birthplace: London Suburbs

"In 1999, Hong Kong, there was a brutal murder which was called the Hello Kitty murder. In Case popular name derives from the fact that the murderers hid the victim's head in a Hello Kitty doll after having beheaded.
-In August 2007, Thai police officers who had committed minor offenses such as tardiness or improper parking areas were forced to wear Hello Kitty armbands for several days as punishment (Hahaha).
-Also in that year, was a famous drug trafficker arrested in Colombia, apart from having a large collection of objects and clothing of the kitten, he used the image of the Japanese to send coded messages to their contacts through e-mail.
-In 2008, opened a maternity hospital in Yuanlin, Taiwan, with the theme of Hello Kitty and hope that the popular character helps reduce the stress of labor. Hello Kitty appears on blankets, room decor, bedding, covers birth certificates and uniforms of nurses (That's cool, no?).

Well then, I'm done! I hope you liked it. I did not know who to put, and I chose Hello Kitty, our beloved cat, and finally, I am far from sorry. Well, I'm going now! Xaooo! Besitos!

Microchip announces the first family of autonomous circuits with real-time clock / calendar (RTCC)

Microchip announced its first family of real-time clock / calendar (RTCC) autonomous I2C ™. The MCP794XX six devices are highly integrated and low cost, and the wide EEPROM and SRAM, and a selection of user-lockable EEPROM for identification only 64-bit reprogrammable can be programmed at the factory with a MAC address. The devices include digital set calibration time of day and a switching function that provides battery backup power with very low levels of voltage and current. By integrating all these functions in a single device, MCP794XX family reduces component count and reduce costs in a variety of applications.

Other applications MCP794XX of thermostats are a smart consumer of energy, electricity meters and commercial refrigeration units, appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and microwave ovens, controls the dashboard in the car and car radios, as well as office equipment, controls irrigation systems, video and other consumer electronics products.

Many applications, such as cameras and laptops, they need a real time clock with power backup to maintain time and alarm settings when main power is removed. Other applications such as commercial refrigeration equipment at points of sale and security systems, they need a real time clock with a monitor in case of power failure to capture and store the time intervals when primary power fails. With its integrated battery switch circuit and recording time in case of power failure, the RTCC MCP794XX help reduce the health, safety and security of the system in applications involving the storage of perishable goods or monitoring access to secure rooms. The devices can be ordered preprogrammed with a MAC address that eliminates time-consuming step in the production flow, and digital tuning function may provide compensation software in temperature, which reduces costs compared with devices in which the temperature compensation is performed by hardware.

By submitting its first autonomous RTCC, with the RTCC integrated microcontrollers, Microchip provides customers an economical choice and a small number of pin RTCC to add functionality to their designs without significantly increasing the size or the design cost.

The availability of the daughter board RTCC MCP79410 Microchip PICtail ™ Plus (part number AC164140, $ 45) is scheduled for February 2011. The six devices are available in encapsulated MSOP, SOIC, TSSOP and 8-pin TDFN
